For a little background, my parents were not fans of traditional brick-and-mortar schools as my older siblings had faced bullying. As a result, they had tried homeschooling, but quickly realized they weren’t up to the task. After some searching, they heard of online schooling, specifically the Minnesota Virtual Academy (MNVA). They liked what they saw, and so my older siblings and I (when I became of age) were enrolled. When we moved to Wisconsin in 2015, we found out there was a Wisconsin division – WIVA. And the rest is history.
While I technically started my education with MNVA, WIVA is where I spent the majority of my school years. Personally, I would recommend it to any parent considering online schooling for their child. It is a public charter school, meaning it is tuition-free. It is also quite flexible with scheduling, allowing students to work at their own pace. WIVA offers specialized coursework, including NCAA-approved high school courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and dual-enrollment opportunities. Teachers are readily available to help with homework or answer general questions. Overall, it is an amazing school that I will always be grateful for.
